Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Projects
(This application is best used with Microsoft Internet Explorer version 7.0 and Mozilla Firefox browsers.)
How to use the CIP Project Viewer
The CIP Project Viewer map application has 4 tabs:
1. Start
You are currently on the Start tab. The Start tab has information about how the CIP Project Viewer Application works.
2. Search
Next, click on the Search Tab.
You can search for projects of a particular type, and/or search for projects by location.
Note: If you search for projects near an address, it will automatically include nearby projects in any City Council district.
Project Type
You can use the drop-down list to choose see only projects that are of a certain type. The types are:
- Buildings and Facilities
- Parks and Open Space
- Sewers and Storm Drains
- Streets and Sidewalks
- Traffic Improvements
3. Map
Once you’ve entered your Search criteria and clicked Search, the Map tab is available. It shows the CIP projects on the map. Hover over each highlighted result to get more information about the project. From there, you can click on the link provided to get detailed information about the project.
4. Results
Once you’ve entered your Search criteria and clicked Search, the Results tab is available. It shows a report listing the projects that met your search criteria. You can click on the project number to get detailed information about the project.

The CIP Viewer map application may not have information about all CIP projects. Only active CIP projects are shown. Projects that are completed, undergoing feasibility studies, or are in post-construction or other phases are not included in the CIP map application.
About CIP projects
The Capital Improvement Program (CIP) includes, in general, projects that are designed to upgrade and improve the City’s infrastructure including building facilities, parks/open space, streets, sidewalks, and sewers. Projects involving maintenance and repair of existing facilities are not shown here.
Types of CIP projects
Buildings and Facilities
Projects in this category include improvements and new developments of recreation centers, fire stations, community centers, and other city buildings, facilities, and structures.
Parks and Open Space
Projects in this category include improvements to playgrounds and tot lots, improvements to park facilities and City swimming pools; and improvements to Oakland’s waterways.
Sewers and Storm Drains
Projects in this category include reconstruction and rehabilitation of the aging sewer facilities to prevent sewage discharges into creeks, lakes, and the San Francisco Bay.
Streets and Sidewalks
Projects in this category include street improvements and streetscape improvements.
Traffic Improvements
This category includes traffic and transportation-related improvements, including traffic calming, traffic signals, modernization of traffic signals and signal controllers, and signal synchronization.
